Heat transfer printing on fabric like webbing requires a precise time, temperature and pressure for application. A common issue that occurs during the heat printing process is scorching, where the polyester fabric fibers melt due to a high amount of heat applied for too long. This can cause the decoration to fade, peel or fall off of the apparel.

The best way to prevent scorching on your polyester garments is to test the fabric for temperature sensitivity. Start with a low temperature like 290 degrees, press on a small area of the fabric and observe for any scorching. Then gradually increase the heat and test again until you reach a temperature at which the webbing doesn’t scorch. This will help you select the right screen printed transfer for your project. If you find that your fabrics scorch easily, choose a heat transfer type that is designed to work on temperature sensitive polyester, such as Elasti Prints or UltraColor Stretch with Blocker from Transfer Express.
